Could you share a personal story or experience that inspired you to become a doctor?
I had an incredible GP growing up that sparked my interest in family medicine. Plus two very influential men, both doctors and fathers of my best friends, motivated me to pursue this career.
What were some pivotal moments during your education or training that shaped your current approach to medicine?
Working in my psychiatry rotation in medical school really gave me perspective on this type of medicine and how equally important it was compared to physical health.
Beyond your formal education, are there any additional learning experiences or continuing education pursuits that have influenced your medical practice?
I really enjoyed mastering plant medicine through my own reading and exploration of the subject. It has given me another very effective potential tool for managing patient symptoms. The harm and risk reduction that MODE is doing in relation to this therapy is extremely motivating.
How do you stay updated with the latest advancements in your field?
By reading, being curious, and keeping in touch with my fellow colleagues to make sure that I am doing all that I can to give the best service to our patient population.
Can you discuss a particular area of interest within your specialty that you are passionate about and explain why it matters to you and your patients?
PTSD with Resistant Anxiety - being able to give care to this patient cohort is very rewarding. The fear extinction model with new medications and the forebrain has been instrumental in allowing those with PTSD to normalise their lives, get restful sleep, and be the men and women they were supposed to be for themselves and their families.
In what ways do you tailor your approach to meet the unique needs of each patient?
By listening. This is a very important skill that we MUST do well. With real connections to our patients, we build trust and better compliance with the therapies chosen.
Can you share an example of how you’ve gone above and beyond for a patient?
When one of our patients contacted me by email over a weekend. I could tell he he wasn’t doing well mentally and I needed to sort him a bed in ED overnight ASAP. Thankfully I was able to speak with the mental health team for consistent follow-up and support. Fortunately, I used to work there and know the staff well.
Are there any achievements or projects in your career that you are particularly proud of?
I’m REALLY proud of what we’re doing here at MODE. I think it’s offering something that is unique across Australia. We are the leaders in proactive health optimisation. How do they reflect your commitment to your field and your patients?A: By staying on top of the latest data on cannabinoids and implementing this knowledge in my patients.
Have you received any feedback or testimonials from patients that have been especially meaningful to you? All the time. It is what fuels our care for them. It can completely turn around a difficult day when we hear positive stories and feedback from our patients.
Can you describe how a new patient can start their journey with you? What steps should they expect?:
If they feel connected to me, or any of the Mode Doc’s, then book in. Feeling connected to a Doc is the biggest thing. I assure them they won’t be disappointed by our service and dedication to getting them feeling better. They should expect someone who listens and integrates different holistic management therapies in order to help them achieve their health goals.
Are there any recent articles or blog posts you’ve written that offer insight into your medical philosophy or personal interests?
